Keukenhof is on the bucket list of many spring travellers to the Netherlands. It is one of the largest floral parks in the world and opens its doors to around one and a half million visitors every year. These are substantial figures if one bears in mind that it is open for a few weeks a year. What is Keukenhof?
Keukenhof is an independent park famous for its floral decorations. It is located in the province of Southern Holland and more precisely in the municipality of Lisse, about thirty kilometers from Amsterdam. Every year visitors can admire the results of the approximately 7 million hand-planted bulbs, mainly including daffodils and tulips, which have now become an international symbol of the Netherlands. In the approximately 34 hectares of the park you can appreciate the work of about 100 companies that deal with flower bulbs (tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, dahlias, etc.), and about 600 flower growers. A gigantic organisation that culminates in the realisation of 20 different flower shows in just 8 weeks.
Its origins date back to 1400, when in the place where it now stands there was the vegetable garden that offered fruit and vegetables to the castle of Teylingen. It was in 1642 years later that the estate was replaced and enlarged with that of the Keukenhof castle. The garden as we see it now was designed by landscape architects David Zocher and his son Louis Paul Zocher in the nineteenth century. The decision to use this large property for a permanent floral display occurred to a group of growers and exporters in the mid-20th century. It was in 1950 that Keukenhof acquired the status of a floral park by opening its doors to the public. Its success has increased over the years crossing international borders.
How to get to Keukenhof
- By car: Keukenhof has around 5,000 parking spaces. You can only park if you have pre-purchased a parking token. From this year there are also parking spaces reserved for visitors with disabilities.
- By public transport: it is possible to reach the park via public transport. Please keep in mind that in the bus operated by Arriva is not possible to bring a mobility scooter (only folded ones).

- Everyday from 23rd March to 14th May
- From 8:00 am to 7:30 pm
- The influx of people is less before 10 am and after 4 pm.
Best time to visit Keukenhof:
- Most popular question. There is no exact answer, it depends on the weather.
- Weather conditions and temperatures vary from year to year. At the beginning of the season you can find tulips, hyacinths and daffodils.

- Kids (4-17 years): € 9,00. Free for 0-3 years
- Groups (more than 18): € 18,50
Accessibility:
- The park is accessible to visitors using manual or electric wheelchairs, mobility scooters, and other aids.
- Toilets: There are several accessible toilets throughout the park, with grab rails on both sides of the toilets.
- Dogs: Access to the park for dogs is allowed, as long as they are kept on a leash. Only one dog per person is allowed. Dogs are not allowed to enter the restaurants or the pavilions (with the exception of guide dogs and support dogs).
- Wheelchair rentals Keukenhof: for € 5,- a manual wheelchair can be hired from the ticket shop. If you want to use this service, we recommend that you report it to the park when booking your visit.
- Windmill: the one present in the park is not wheelchair accessible and has many steps
- Whisper boat: the boat is not wheelchair accessible, but you can leave your mobility aid on the side (at your own risk)
