What is Keukenhof?

Every year, during spring, Keukenhof Park transforms into a sea of vibrant colors and delicate scents. This magical place is home to over seven million flower bulbs, which include tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, and a wide range of other floral varieties. Its opening, usually from mid-March to mid-May, coincides with spring flowering, creating an unparalleled spectacle.
Keukenhof Park, located in the province of South Holland, is famous for its spectacular floral decorations. It is located in the municipality of Lisse, a short distance from Amsterdam, and is renowned for its seven million bulbs planted by hand each year, with a predominant variety of daffodils and tulips, which have become international symbols of the Netherlands. Spread over about 34 hectares, the park boasts the work of about 100 flower bulb companies and 600 floriculturists, creating 20 different flower shows in just eight weeks.
Its origins date back to the 1400s, when the area housed a kitchen garden that supplied produce to Teylingen Castle. In 1642, the estate was replaced and expanded with that of Keukenhof Castle. The present garden was designed in the 19th century by landscape architects David Zocher and his son Louis Paul Zocher. In the 20th century, a group of growers and exporters decided to turn the property into a permanent flower show. In 1950, Keukenhof opened its doors to the public, achieving growing success that extended beyond national borders.
How to get to Keukenhof
- By car: Keukenhof has around 5,000 parking spaces. You can only park if you have pre-purchased a parking token. From this year there are also parking spaces reserved for visitors with disabilities.
- By public transport: it is possible to reach the park via public transport. Please keep in mind that in the bus operated by Arriva is not possible to bring a mobility scooter (only folded ones).

- Everyday from 21rd March to 12th May
- From 8:00 am to 7:30 pm
- The influx of people is less before 10 am and after 4 pm.

Best time to visit Keukenhof:
- Most popular question. There is no exact answer, it depends on the weather.
- Weather conditions and temperatures vary from year to year. At the beginning of the season you can find tulips, hyacinths and daffodils.

Accessibility Keukenhof:
- The park is accessible to visitors using manual or electric wheelchairs, mobility scooters, and other aids.
- Toilets: There are several accessible toilets throughout the park, with grab rails on both sides of the toilets.
- Dogs: Access to the park for dogs is allowed, as long as they are kept on a leash. Only one dog per person is allowed. Dogs are not allowed to enter the restaurants or the pavilions (with the exception of guide dogs and support dogs).
- Wheelchair rentals Keukenhof: for € 5,- a manual wheelchair can be hired from the ticket shop. If you want to use this service, we recommend that you report it to the park when booking your visit.
- Windmill: the one present in the park is not wheelchair accessible and has many steps
- Whisper boat: the boat is not wheelchair accessible, but you can leave your mobility aid on the side (at your own risk)
Where to eat:
- Several restaurants through the park wit different menu (poke bowl, sandwiches, apple cake)
