The Van Gogh Museum houses the largest collection of works by the artist Vincent Van Gogh, one of the foremost Dutch painters of the 19th century. Opened at Museumplein in June 1973, it was built on a project by architects Gerrit Rietveld and Kisho Kurokawa. Today it is one of the best known museums in the world. His collection includes about 200 paintings, 400 drawings, and 700 letters. Inside there are also works by other artists related to the Dutch painter, including Paul Gauguin, Georges Seurat, Édouard Manet, Claude Monet, and Auguste Rodin.
