Tram 2 in Amsterdam – One of the most beautiful tram ride in the world

Amsterdam has 14 tram lines and among these there is a special one, line # 2. It has in fact been defined by National Geographic in "Journeys of a Lifetime" one of the most beautiful in the world! Why did the famous magazine put this line in its world top 10? Because it takes travelers to many of the major tourist attractions in the city of Amsterdam. On its way from Central Station to Nieuw Sloten, it passes through the Royal Palace, the New Church, the Beguinage, the Flower Market, the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum and Vondelpark. For decades, travelers on this line have been able to see the best of Amsterdam's attractions simply by enjoying the view from the windows.

The history of this line is very old and dates back to 1881: at the time there were no modern electric vehicles, but a horse tram was used; the route was also different and ran from Leidscheplein to Pieter Cornelisz Hooftstraat. The extension to Dam Square took place already in the following two years. The current complete route dates back to 1991, when the terminus was set at Nieuw Sloten.
