How does it work at Schiphol airport if I need assistance?

Many tourists arrive in the Netherlands by flying to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. It is a modern and efficient airport that has greatly implemented its services on accessibility. Schiphol's assistant assistants await the traveler when the plane is opened. Once all the passengers have left the aircraft, the crew gives instructions on how to proceed. This operation is carried out at the end in order to allow the traveler to receive the maximum attention. If you move only using the wheelchair the staff will retrieve the equipment and take it directly on board the plane. If the plane has not been parked at the gate it is possible that there are stairs: in that case, if you are not able to get them down with help, there will be a stairlift or an ambulift. The wheelchair will be waiting for you directly at the terminal.
If you are leaving Schiphol for another destination, we suggest that you announce your arrival at the Axxicom Airport Caddy service. There you will find directly accessible wheelchairs for the airport. For more information you can consult the page of the airport dedicated to Assistance.

How to get to Amsterdam from Schiphol Airport?

The best way to reach Amsterdam from the Schiphol airport is by train. Right at the airport, at the gate, you can find the train station directly! It is located exactly under Schiphol Plaza. For each track there is an elevator that takes the passenger to the train level. At the airport there is the classic ticket office but also several yellow machines where you can buy the ticket (remember to validate it at the machines before you get on!). On request it is possible to use the train service for accessible transport. To get to Amsterdam you can take any "Sprinter" that arrives at Amsterdam Central Station, which has an accessible entrance at the platform level. If you want to take another type of train, then you should contact the NS service in advance.

Can I travel by train with a wheelchair or mobility scooter?

Yes. Most train stations have special wheelchair ramps and elevators. Tickets can be made directly at the yellow columns or at the OV Service & Tickets Shop. In the event of problems in making the ticket and if you cannot find an NS employee you can directly contact their free telephone number (0800-0540) and you will be given unprecedented assistance (in English).
The NS service reports that wheelchairs and mobility scooters should not exceed these measurements: 150 cm in length, 70 cm in width and 137.5 cm in height (including luggage). The measurements are given because they must be suitable for elevators and ramps used by the service.
For more information and to be up to date, consult the NS service page (in English) and the station page (in Dutch).
