Vermeer Exhibition 2023 - Rijksmuseum
The Dutch blockbuster for this 2023: Vermeer. 28 of the 37 paintings attributed to him are now displayed in the halls of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. A crazy record: never before have so much art by this Dutch artist been managed under one roof. An event that most likely will not repeat itself. It took a good 7 years to organize this exhibition, which saw the involvement of industry institutions located all over the world. If you are in Amsterdam during this period you will be lucky if you can enter the galleries. By now the exhibition is completely sold out until June and the museum staff is working to be able to offer more tickets. What to do in this case? As always, the Rijksmuseum does not disappoint us from this point of view. Indeed, for us this museum is the perfect example of museum accessibility. It is no coincidence that it is often brought up as an example of excellence in international courses.

Tickets and info
For the occasion, the museum management has decided to extend the opening hours of the exhibition halls. Unfortunately, as we anticipated at the beginning, there don't seem to be any tickets available at the moment. Keep an eye on the official page that you find here.

Vermeer Exhibition
Vermeer's pictorial production was not that extensive, on average two paintings a year. Yet his talent and fame are known by all. Those who have even a small interest in the world of art certainly have in mind the girl with a pearl earring, the view of Delft, or the milkmaid. His intimate and delicate environments, his bright colors, his use of space, have given him the title of Maestro.
The Dutch exhibition of 2023 presents 28 of his works in chronological order and allows us to take a closer look at this artist. An exhibition dedicated exclusively to Vermeer has been desired for a long time, if only considering the fact that the Rijksmuseum owns 4 paintings. It took 8 years to organize an event of this magnitude: a long period during which conservatories from different institutions collaborated. For example, 3 canvases arrived from the important New York collection The Frick Collection and the same number from the Mauritshuis. On the occasion of the exhibition, the scientific staff of the amsterdammer museum took the opportunity, together with the University of Antwerp, to closely study the New York works, bringing to light new results.
Vermeer is certainly one of the most talented artists of the entire seventeenth century. His originality has led him to become famous all over the world. Yet his figure still remains enigmatic. Although we have several contemporary sources in relation to the artist, his life remains a mystery.
